Family Halloween

Low-scare and no-scare Halloween events for kids around Minnesota in 2026.

Checked 2026-10-19

Pumpkins, parades, trick-or-treating and a lights-on haunted house or two. Almost nothing on this page is built to scare anybody. The one exception, Monster Bash's Reduced Fright, is marked as such. If you're trying to figure out whether a real haunt is too much for your kids, skip down to the age rules roundup.

Twin Cities metro

Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular, Minnesota Zoo

Apple Valley

A nighttime walk past more than 5,000 carved, lit pumpkins, with a trivia theme this year. Fog, music and colored lights, and no scares. It's all outdoors and runs rain or shine, so bring hats and gloves. One catch for families: Halloween night itself is adults only.

Adults-only (18+) nights: Sept 25, Oct 7 and Oct 31 (Oct 31 runs 6 pm–midnight). The first entry time you can book is 6 pm (6:30 pm on the Oct 31 adults-only night), and popular times sell out: as of Oct 19, nothing was left before 9 pm on Fri Oct 23 or before 9:30 pm on Sat Oct 24.
Price
Adults $23–$30, kids $19–$26. Ages 0–2 free and don't need a ticket. Members save $3–$4. Non-member parking $10 a car. 18+ nights $45 per adult (members $5 off). Online only, in advance, nonrefundable. A Priority Pumpkin Pass add-on (100 a night, not on 18+ nights) is sold; its price isn't on the page.

Monster Bash Reduced Fright

Harmony

Harmony's volunteer haunt offers a less-scary way through at no extra cost: the actors won't scare you directly. The haunt itself, the automated effects and the other guests still can, so it's a step down, not a lights-on tour. Ask for it when you buy your ticket. Our take, not theirs: it suits older kids trying their first haunt better than little ones.

2026 dates
Same nights as Monster Bash 14: Meltdown Medical: Fri Oct 9 (7–9 pm), Sat Oct 10 (7–10), Fri Oct 16 (6–10), Sat Oct 17 (5–10), Fri Oct 23 (7–10), Sat Oct 24 (6–10), Sun Oct 25 (6–8), Fri Oct 30 (7–10), Sat Oct 31 (6–10).
Price
Regular admission, no extra charge: $20, or $15 on Oct 9, 10 and 25. RIP pass $40. Under 5 free. Door only, cash or card.

Too scary for kids?

Here's what the big haunts themselves say about age, pulled from their own sites. A recommendation is the haunt's advice; a minimum is a rule.

  • ValleyScare: Anyone 17 or under needs a chaperone 21 or older with a physical government photo ID (a photo of one doesn't count). One chaperone, up to 5 minors a day. The park calls it intense.
  • The Dead End Hayride: Must be 10 or older. 13 and up recommended.
  • The Abandoned Hayride: 10 and older recommended. No children 4 and under. Kids can't be carried or ride on a lap. Touch in every attraction.
  • ScreamTown: 10 and up recommended. You can't carry children through, and strollers won't fit.
  • The Haunting Experience: VIP and Massacre recommended for 13 and up. No age stated for general admission.
  • Twin Cities Fear Fest: Recommended for 12 and older.
  • Molitor's Haunted Acres: Recommended for 12 and up. Guests 12 and under must come with an adult.
  • Duluth Haunted Ship: No child under 12 without a parent or caregiver.
  • Haunted Shack & Hayride: Not recommended under 12. Under 16 with an adult. Everyone signs a waiver; under 18 also needs a parent or guardian release form.
  • Fright at the Farm: Suggested ages 10 to 99. Under 13 with an adult; 15 and under need a responsible adult on site.
  • Harvest of Horror: All ages welcome; use judgment with preschoolers.
  • Monster Bash and New Ulm Nightmares: No age rule at either. Monster Bash has Reduced Fright; New Ulm has a lights-on Kids Day, listed above.
